Best Buddies participants Malachi Wells and Ashaana Love enjoy Prom together!
On Friday, April 29, Best Buddies Illinois (BBIL) and our Walter Payton College Preparatory High School chapter joined forces to host the sixth annual Best Buddies Prom, where Best Buddies participants from all over the city were able to enjoy a night of food, dancing and memory-making.
The Chicago Schools’ Prom has become one of BBIL’s most beloved events during the school year and has been emulated around the country by other Best Buddies offices.
This year’s theme was inspired by The Great Gatsby. Gold-rimmed mirrors, a gold-plated chandelier and translucent balloon fixtures which were hung from the ceiling, added the perfect amount of subtle yet regal décor. Our participants were dressed to the nines, but this didn’t stop them from tearing up the dance floor.
Experiences like Best Buddies Prom are crucial to creating not only a more inclusive school environment but a more inclusive Illinois. As a staff, we are so grateful to have a volunteer base in Chicago that is so committed to making this an unforgettable night for our participants.
As Prom often represents the end of a high school student’s journey, we recognize that many of our participants are saying goodbye to their respective chapters as they move forward in their lives. Through this event, we’re confident that we are sending our senior chapter members off with memories that will last a lifetime!
